We Three Kings of orient are //
Bearing gifts we traversed afar//
Field and Fountain, Moore and Mountain//
Following yonder star
This is the way one of my favorite Christmas carols begins. The song then goes on to musically explain the meaning of each gift the wise men gave Jesus in Mark 2:11: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.
Gold was given in honor of a new king, Frankincense to worship God, and Myrrh to prepare a body for burial.
With these gifts, the Wise Men honored the Baby Jesus for all that He was: God, who was a King, and was born to be a sacrifice. May we be as wise as to do the same.
