For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; not for your body, as to what you will put on. Matthew 6:25-26
In a sense we live in an insecure world. Riots, plaques, racial discord, spiritual apathy, terrorism, an out of control drug culture, family distress…it seems like there is just no end to the list. But perhaps that is the core of our problem. The “list”.
The list affects our outward look on life, our decision making, and yes even to the extent of our relationship with one another.
As Christ followers we know we should not get all caught up in the list, but unfortunately we often do.
Here is an idea to ponder: what would happen if we acknowledged the list, but refused to let it impact our spirit? This way we would protect our spirit from the burden of things out of our control.
Maybe, just maybe that is what Jesus meant when He said, “Be in the world, not of the world.”
