Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. I Peter 4:12
Many of you know one of my hobbies is cooking. One of my great cooking successes occurred when I learned to crack an egg with one hand and see it cooked sunny side up. That success came at the price of a lot of eggs and an abundance of scrambled eggs. Two lessons I learned in my eggy cracking journey were; once you have cracked an egg it can never be uncracked. Second, you cannot unscramble an egg, but you can make a delicious omelet. Now transition with me and ask yourself the question, what am I to do when I am the cracked egg? This human egg cracking experience is known by a lot of different names and descriptions, loss of innocence, personal dysfunction, bad attitudes, repressed but seething anger, and we could go on and on. The harsh reality is we all get cracked at some point in our life’s journey. Another descriptor for this cracking is brokenness. A wise man once said, “When you break God’s law, God’s law eventually breaks you.” Sin, because of its inherent destructive force must be confronted, confessed and surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ! It is out of our brokenness we learn to surrender and serve. Cracking is often the process necessary for creating something better. So if you are cracked, don’t despair. Jesus can transform your brokenness into something even better than you ever thought possible. Confront sin, confess sin and surrender your life to Jesus and observe in the mirror His beautiful omelet.Pastor Holmes
