Pray Twice, Vote Once
Philippians 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Feelings of worry and anxiety will inevitably pop up as you travel the path of life. This seems to be particularly true during election season. I have heard many a person these days say they are getting off of social media or just plain taking a break from the news. They are on anxiety overload! The Apostle Paul diagnoses the symptoms and presents a healthy prescription to all our anxiety maladies. Dr. Paul reminds us that we don’t have to live there. The answer is to make our way to God as soon as we sense a worry. Don’t delay! Pray immediately and ask for His strength even as we mentally make our way over the next weeks to the voting booth. Here is an anonymous prayer we can pray as we move through these days. Our Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us and for sending the Holy Spirit to comfort us and to guide us. Lord, right now it feels like there is so much at stake, and there is a lot of anxiety about the upcoming election. People are worried. Your Word says to be anxious for nothing, but in everything to come to You; I ask that you provide peace and comfort to the worried hearts of this country right now. Relieve their anxiety by helping them to focus on You and your will. Help those who feel anxious to instead feel Your presence. Please diffuse the spirit of anxiety across the nation, bringing understanding between all people. Reign over us, O Lord, instead of fear. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen. Pastor Donny
