Waiting…
Have you ever had a Christmas that did not go according to plan? Growing up, my family would wake up in the morning, open our stockings, have a nice breakfast, and then open gifts. One Christmas eve almost everyone in my family got sick throughout the night. What we did that day was drastically different from what we had planned. This happens in other aspects of our lives as well. Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan. Even when things don’t work out, we can take comfort in the fact that God has a plan that will. God’s plan began way back at the beginning of everything. After Adam and Eve had sinned God hinted at the fact that he would send someone to “crush the serpent’s head” to make everything right again (Genesis 3:15). Throughout history God began to slowly reveal his plan to people through prophets like Jeremiah. “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. “‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior. Jeremiah 33:14-16 It took 42 generations from Abraham for the one who fulfilled God’s plan to be born (Read Matthew 1:1-17). This shows us that God’s plan unfolds over generations and continues to unfold as we wait for Jesus to return. During this season of Advent, I want you to reflect and ask yourself, is there any area of your life where you are struggling to trust God’s plan? Scripture shows us that God likes to wait. Sometimes for us waiting is difficult and often feels like nothing is happening. But we know He always fulfills His promises. Are you willing to trust God and wait? Pastor Blake
