Thank you for EVERYTHING: A pondering
by Holly Woodbridge – I have been teaching kids about Jesus for a long time. I love kids. I love their questions. I love their answers. The truth is I may have learned more than I have ever taught. Here is a question I often ask the kids, especially at this time of year, “What are you thankful for today?” A frequent answer, “EVERYTHING!” Then, I usually respond, “Be more specific” Or “Name something.” I am teaching them to count their blessings, right? But there is a scripture that instructs us, "And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:20. This verse leaves us with a choice. Give thanks for everything or don’t. There is another that says, “In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 18. Apparently, in that moment of our lesson, the kids are choosing to give thanks in and for everything. So, who is teaching who? Now, I will still continue to count my blessings as it does help me to be more intentional about thankfulness, but I’ve got to tell you, kids have it absolutely right. And Miss Holly still has lots to learn. So, what am I thankful for today? I am thankful for EVERYTHING!
