The God of “New” – A pondering by Holly Woodbridge Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV 22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. As I walked onto our porch with our pups early in the morning on New Years day, a fresh blanket of snow covering the yard, I was reminded of the quote Pastor Donny shared with us last Sunday morning. “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it... yet.” ―L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables It was as if God’s creation was whispering: Here is a whole new year with no mistakes in it... yet. Well, it’s Monday and sadly, I have already made mistakes, bypassed the “yet.” I have let selfishness take charge on more than one occasion, sin we call it around here. BUT, this verse in Lamentations reminds me, that God is not just God of the New Year, but God of the new day, God of the new moment, God of the new path, God of the new dream, God of the new chance for a broken relationship, because He is God of the new PERSON! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. So, today, as you run into whatever seems old, hopeless, stale, difficult, challenging, broken, pause and look up: Our God is the God of “NEW!” He is the God of a new YOU!
