WWCN Staff on the Coronavirus Outbreak and Words of Hope

Dear Church Family,
After considerable discussion, today we have decided to cancel all live-services and all on-campus programing for the next two weeks.  While we understand this comes as a disappointment for many of our church family members, we made this difficult decision in a spirit of faith, rather than fear.  With the recent guidelines of the Center for Disease Control, gatherings of no more than 50 for the next eight weeks, we have decided it better to err on the side of caution and listen to the advice of public health officials.  We have the responsibility to our church family, to protect their health and safety.  We have the responsibility to the Topeka community, to help minimize the impact of the virus among at-risk populations.

So, here is what we plan to do to continue leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ:
  1. We will be live-streaming our services on our church website.  We invite you to join us from the comfort of your home with your family at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.  We will also be broadcasting our service 10:30 AM on 13.2 (or channel 11 for Cox customers, or channel 12 for U-verse customers).  If there are technical difficulties, we will have our service loaded on our You Tube channel by 5:00 PM
  2. Our Family Ministry team is developing a plan to offer online solutions for Wednesday Evenings for our kids and students.
  3. We will send out daily updates and devotionals to our church family.  We encourage you to forward these on to others who may need encouragement and reminders of God’s protection even in crisis.
  4. We are asking for your continued prayers – pray for people who are affected by this virus, medical professionals who are treating the ill, researchers working on vaccines and cures, people who are scared and anxious, government leaders making tough decisions to keep us safe, as well as our local church community.
This is also a time to remember who we are called to be as the Church.  The church has never been defined by a building; it has never been limited by geography or a particular space.  It is a body united by the Spirit of Christ, joining together regardless of the physical distance between us.  Even apart, we pray and worship together.

In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be quite apparent if we under-reacted or did too little.

Please know your pastoral staff is here to assist you in any way possible.  Trust God, continue to make wise decisions and watch how God works in our changing world.
