John 14:6 – “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
In our postmodern age many people, including some who identify themselves as Christians, challenge the reality of Jesus Christ as the way. The concept of truth is strongly debated as well. It appears that the popular notion is that truth is what an individual thinks it is, not what GOD and His Word say it is. Which side of this debate are you on? If you believe John 14:6 and accept GOD’s Word as the complete truth, then you fall within what theologians call the scandal of particularity, which is the belief that Jesus is the only way to heaven. The Christian faith doesn’t put forth a general philosophy of religious truth statements or a set of propositions. It tells a story and that story invites questions such as the one which prompted the above response from Jesus. Why is Jesus Christ the only way? Why has GOD chosen to use a particular way to choose particular people for His particular purposes? This is an offense to many modern sensibilities, and I believe their questions deserve a Biblical answer. I want to encourage you (all) to read GOD’s Word. Ask questions, but be ready to answer questions as well when the challenges come. Shalom, Pastor Bill
